About Emmaus, Inc.

Founded in 1985, Emmaus, Inc. is a non-profit organization devoted to helping families and individuals rebuild their lives.  Located in Haverhill, MA, it is the largest provider of emergency shelter in Essex County. Since 1985, Emmaus has helped more than 30,000 children and adults out of homelessness and toward self-sufficiency. This past year alone, Emmaus has helped 2,478 people, including 1,238 children through its shelters and housing programs.  On any given night, 300 adults and children will call Emmaus “home.”

Emmaus, a certified Community Housing Development Organization, has developed 97 units of permanent affordable housing; provides emergency shelter for up to 54 families and 44 individuals concurrently; and offers housing services and comprehensive support services to hundreds of households annually. 

Approximately 700 volunteers, 150 businesses, 200 faith communities, plus 2,000 donors contribute services and more than $500,000 in private gifts each year.
